Since I was a child, I’ve had a deep passion for dance, modeling, and acting. I began ballet at the age of 10, and by 14, I was participating in local beauty pageants in my hometown. I didn’t win the crowns—but I did earn something far more valuable: resilience, confidence, and a few early milestones in modeling. I appeared in catalogs and on banners, small steps that felt like giant leaps to a young girl with big dreams.

Following my parents’ advice, I pursued a degree in accounting. They wanted me to have stability, to know I could take care of myself before chasing a creative career. I listened, studied hard, and earned my bachelor’s degree. But when I came to America at 20, something shifted. I enrolled to continue my accounting studies, but when I discovered the Theater Arts program, something clicked in my heart. I knew I had to follow my calling. I made the courageous decision to switch majors, called my parents, and told them: I’m taking a risk because I want to live without regret.

That same belief still lives in me today.

I’m 5’4”. In the modeling industry, that often means I don’t fit the standard mold. Many castings require models to be at least 5’8”, and as a foreign actress with an accent, I’m often considered a “niche” choice for roles. But I never let those limitations define me—or stop me. In fact, those so-called disadvantages are exactly what shape me. Every challenge has been a stepping stone, sharpening my grit, building my character, and giving me the confidence to keep going.

Being petite in the fashion industry doesn’t mean being less than. It means being underestimated—and proving people wrong. It means showing that beauty, charisma, and talent come in every size. Petite models bring versatility, relatability, and authenticity that deserve a place in campaigns, on runways, and in global conversations about representation.

I advocate for petite models not just because I am one—but because I believe in breaking barriers. I believe in expanding the definition of beauty and success. I believe that every person, regardless of their height, ethnicity, or background, deserves the opportunity to shine.

This journey hasn’t been easy, but I’ve always chosen the path of greatest growth. Like a diamond shaped under pressure, I’ve learned that it’s the tough moments that reveal your true brilliance.

One of my biggest dreams, since childhood, has been to make the world a better place. I’ve always believed in the power of love, in the energy we put into the world, and in the strength of a positive mindset. I see things through a lens of possibility—and I consider that my superpower.

To all the young girls, aspiring models, and dreamers who feel like they don’t “fit” the mold: remember that you don’t have to. You are enough as you are. You can create your own mold—and you can shine just as brightly.

The industry is changing, and I’m proud to be part of that change. The future belongs to those who dare to believe in themselves. And I’m just getting started.

With love and light,

Stefaniya Makarova
